David Kjar | Trumpet

A graduate of the early music program at The Royal Conservatory of The Hague (Holland), natural trumpeter David Kjar has performed with the Newberry Consort (Chicago), Haymarket Opera (Chicago), La Petite Bande (Brussels), Concerto Köln, Musica Antiqua Köln, Musica Antiga Barroca (Brazil), The Bach Ensemble (Boston/Europe), and Rebel (NYC) while working with early-music specialists Liza Malamut, Sigiswald Kuijken, Joshua Rifkin, Rene Jacobs, Reinhard Goebel, Martin Pearlman, Jörg Michael Schwarz, Masaaki Suzuki, and Richard Egarr. He soloed with Rebel under Jörg Michael Schwarz, Quintus (Holland), the Lyra Baroque Orchestra with Jacque Ogg (MN), and the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra (Israel). Solo performances have been broadcast on American Public Radio’s Performance Today with Fred Childs, Minnesota Public Radio, and Belgium’s classical radio station Klara—and recorded with the Naxos and Hännsler Classic labels. He taught natural trumpet for nine years at Festival Musica Antiga in Juiz de Fora, Brazil. He currently teaches at the Chicago College of Performing Arts, Roosevelt University.
