Cellist James Waldo‘s “nuanced, richly ambered” playing (Lucid Culture NYC) can be heard in diverse chamber music and recital settings. Notable chamber music appearances include Weill Recital Hall, Alice Tully and Merkin Halls, Piccolo Spoleto, and the Magisterra Soloists Concerts in London, Ontario. Equally comfortable on modern and period instruments, Waldo was raised by two excellent recorder players, and has performed in countless settings across the United States as a baroque cellist and viola da gamba player. A founding member of LeStrange Viols and Spirits of the Red City, Waldo recently served as Lecturer of Cello at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2022-2025) and Visiting Lecturer of Cello at Lawrence Conservatory (2026). He is currently instructor of cello, double bass, piano, and early childhood music at the Madison Country Day School, an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in Waunakee, WI.
